How to Source Foam Scrap: A Buyer's Supplier Checklist
Published 2026-10-11. Practical guide for factory buyers sourcing PU foam scrap and rebonded foam.
Sourcing PU foam scrap internationally is a specification and logistics exercise, not a price-only decision. Grade, skin content, color, bale weight, loading port, and payment terms determine whether a shipment fits your production line. This checklist is for factory purchasing managers and technical buyers who need to compare offers from suppliers in China and other markets. Use it to ask better questions before you commit to a trial lot or a full container load.
Start With the Grade, Not the Price
Foam scrap is not a single material. Grade AA, Grade A, and Grade B behave differently in rebonded PU foam production and other foam scrap uses. Ask for the grade in writing and confirm what the supplier means by it.
- Grade AA: around 5% skin or 0-skin versions, density 20-30kg/m3. We describe Grade AA as “quality is super good and price is also expensive” — confirm which skin version you require.
- Grade A: available in 5% skin and 15% skin versions.
- Grade B: around 15% skin.
- Color: black, white, or mixed. Color affects sorting and final appearance, so confirm what is available.
Other listed materials include memory visco (memory foam) scrap, shredded foam, filter foam scrap, Dali skin foam, Hi-Poly shoe foam scrap (50-60 density), crushed fabric bra foam scrap, and old used foam. PU binder and 10mm thick carpet underlay are separate lines, not scrap grades. If your process needs a specific material, name it in the inquiry. More on grades is in foam scrap grades explained.
What a Real Offer Should List
An offer that only says PU foam scrap is not enough. A usable quote should state the grade, skin percentage, color, density, bale weight, and loading port. We list bulk foam scrap density of 15-30kg/m3 and bales of 200-300kg. Supply ability is listed on Alibaba as 5000 Ton/Tons per Month, and ports Shenzhen or Guangzhou, China.
Ask for these details in writing:
- Grade, skin %, and color.
- Density in kg/m3.
- Bale weight in kg.
- Loading port: Shenzhen or Guangzhou.
- Container load estimate for your chosen grade.
- Available scrap types, including shredded foam, memory visco scrap, or other grades.
See our PU foam scrap page for the types we list.
MOQ and Trial Lots
Minimum order quantity depends on the supplier and the grade. If you are testing a new grade or a new supplier, ask about the MOQ and whether a smaller trial lot is possible before you plan a full container.
When you discuss MOQ, be specific about:
- Target grade and color.
- Order volume you can accept for a first trial.
- Bale size and packaging.
- Destination port and expected container load.
- Payment method you prefer.
Ask the supplier to confirm the MOQ for your selected material and order. That is also why we ask you to contact us for a quote instead of a single published number for every grade.
Container Loading and Logistics Planning
Foam scrap ships in compressed bales; confirm bale weight and container loading with the supplier for your grade. Ports are Shenzhen or Guangzhou, China. The full walkthrough — bale weights, 40ft loads, and what to arrange on your side — is in importing foam scrap.
Payment Methods and Risk Controls
We accept T/T, L/C, D/P D/A, MoneyGram, Credit Card, Western Union, and Cash. Different payment methods suit different order sizes and risk levels. A trial lot may use a simpler method, while a full container order may use T/T or L/C. The key is to match the payment method to the order value, the supplier relationship, and your own company policy.
Before payment, ask:
- Which payment methods the supplier accepts, in writing.
- What deposit and balance terms apply to your order volume.
- What documents are issued for the shipment.
- Who is responsible for bank charges.
Red flags appear when a supplier refuses to put grade, skin %, color, density, bale weight, and loading port in the offer. Another red flag is pressure to pay through a method your finance team cannot control. A quote that is far outside the market for the stated grade also needs checking through samples and written specifications.
Supplier Profile Checks That Matter
Check the business type and location. We are a manufacturer and trading company at ChaoLang Industrial Zone, Chashan Town, Dongguan City, Guangdong, China. We serve the Mid East, South America, Southeast Asia, Africa, and the China domestic market.
Ask for the company full name, address, contact person, and product pages. For foam scrap, the useful checks are practical: Can the supplier describe the grade in detail? Can they confirm skin %, color, density, bale weight, and loading port? Do they handle the scrap types you need — and, separately, PU binder or 10mm thick foam carpet underlay if your order includes them? If your inquiry is about rebonded foam, note that rebonded PU foam is made with recycled PU foam and is 100% recyclable, with density from 50kg/m3 to 300kg/m3 and shape cutting supported. More answers are in the FAQ.
Red Flags in Foam Scrap Sourcing
Use a simple red-flag list when comparing suppliers:
- No grade, skin %, or color in the written offer.
- No density or bale weight.
- No loading port or container load estimate.
- Vague answers about whether the material is Grade AA, Grade A, or Grade B.
- No clear payment terms or documents.
- Photos that do not match the stated grade or color.
- Pressure to skip a trial lot when you are testing a new grade.
Also understand what contact us for quote means. When you request a quote, supply the grade, skin %, color, density, order volume, loading port, and container load you are comparing on. A Grade AA lot with 0-skin and a Grade B lot are quoted as different grades. When comparing quotes, confirm the grade, skin content and order terms match.
What to Tell Us When You Inquire
Send your target grade, skin %, color, density requirement, bale weight preference, order volume, destination port, and preferred payment method. Tell us your application if you have one. For rebonded PU foam, the uses are replacement of virgin foam, furniture padding, farming mattress, domestic mattress, and modular autoparts. If your inquiry concerns a separate product such as 10mm thick foam carpet underlay, name it separately. Contact us through our contact page with your specifications, and Ms. Vicky Chen, Sales Manager, can review the available foam scrap grades and loading options for your inquiry.
