Rebonded Foam Applications: Where Factories Use It
Published 2026-10-11. Practical guide for factory buyers sourcing PU foam scrap and rebonded foam.
Rebonded PU foam is made with recycled PU foam and is 100% recyclable, with densities from 50 kg/m3 to 300 kg/m3 and shape cutting supported. Factories use it in several roles where virgin foam would otherwise be specified. This guide covers the listed uses of rebonded PU foam — replacement of virgin foam, furniture padding, farming mattress, domestic mattress and modular autoparts — plus two related product lines: 10mm carpet underlay and Hi-Poly shoe foam scrap. If your part is safety-critical or must meet a specific standard, test the selected material before committing to a production run.
Replacement of Virgin Foam
Why rebond fits: it is a practical substitute where a factory wants to reduce virgin foam content . Densities run from 50 kg/m3 to 300 kg/m3, so buyers can specify the density, then confirm actual performance with a sample. Shape cutting is supported, so the foam can be cut to the profile you specify. In replacement roles, the main variables are density, thickness, and compression feel. If you are replacing virgin foam in an existing product, send the current density, thickness, and the way the part is used — seat, back, divider, or filler. That lets the supplier match the rebonded foam to the job instead of guessing.
Furniture Padding
Furniture padding is a listed use. Rebonded PU foam can be cut to shape and buyers often describe target parts such as seat cushions or back pads when inquiring, for foam that stays out of sight. It can lower the amount of virgin foam in a furniture build while still providing bulk and support. The density range from 50 kg/m3 to 300 kg/m3 covers light padding through firmer cushions, and shape cutting allows the foam to fit specific frame dimensions. For factory purchasing, the key is to define the firmness and thickness. See furniture applications for more detail on matching foam to furniture parts.
Domestic Mattress
Domestic mattress is a listed use of rebonded PU foam. Mattress factories inquiring about rebonded foam often describe support layers, edge support, or padding that stays covered by fabric or other layers. It comes in densities from 50 kg/m3 to 300 kg/m3, so a mattress maker can select the density and confirm suitability for support or padding roles with the supplier. Shape cutting is supported, so the foam can be cut to mattress dimensions or specific inserts. The main specification points are density and thickness, and whether the foam will be used as a full layer or a cut insert. More on mattress foam sourcing is at mattress applications and the mattress foam buying guide.
Farming Mattress
Farming mattress is a listed use. Rebonded PU foam fits because it can be supplied in densities from 50 kg/m3 to 300 kg/m3. The higher end of that range gives a firmer, heavier block; the lower end gives a lighter block. Shape cutting is supported, so foam can be cut to the dimensions you specify. Because farming mattresses are usually covered or not visible, confirm which specifications matter for your conditions. Specify the load and the expected conditions so the foam grade can be matched to the job.
Modular Autoparts
Modular autoparts is a listed use of rebonded PU foam. In automotive, buyers often describe modular components such as interior padding or non-structural filler parts when inquiring. It can be shape-cut to fit modular assemblies. Densities from 50 kg/m3 to 300 kg/m3 allow the factory to choose a light or firm foam depending on the part. For purchasing, the specification should include the density, thickness, shape, and whether the part is visible or hidden. Memory visco scrap, shredded foam, and PU binder are also available for factories that produce their own bonded foam parts. If the autopart must meet a specific compression, fatigue, or flammability requirement, the buyer should test the selected grade before production — this guide claims no certification or approval for automotive use.
Foam scrap grades at a glance
If you buy scrap as feedstock rather than finished rebonded foam: Grade AA is available with around 5% skin or 0-skin versions at density 20-30 kg/m3; Grade A comes in 5% skin and 15% skin versions; Grade B has around 15% skin. Colors include black, white, and mixed. Fungbillion describes Grade AA as "quality is super good and price is also expensive". Full detail is in PU foam scrap grades AA / A / B explained.
10mm Carpet Underlay
10mm thick foam carpet underlay is a separate product line, listed at 10mm thick. It is used under carpet to add cushioning. Fungbillion does not publish the base material composition or a density specification for the underlay — confirm both with sales when you inquire, and do not assume the 50-300 kg/m3 rebonded foam range applies. Ask about available thicknesses and forms. Carpet underlay buyers can review carpet applications and the carpet underlay buying guide.
Hi-Poly Shoe Foam Scrap
Hi-Poly shoe foam scrap (50-60 density) is a listed foam scrap grade for shoe material buyers. It is a scrap grade — confirm recycled content with sales if your project specifies it. Confirm thickness, color, and skin content with sales against your component specification. Shoe material buyers can review shoe material applications.
How to compare a rebond offer
A serious offer lists the product, density, thickness, skin percentage and color for scrap, form, port and payment terms. If any of these are missing, ask before comparing prices. For the full checklist, see how to source foam scrap and what drives foam scrap price.
